You Know You’re in Dubai When Work Becomes Pleasure With These Unconventional Yet Fun Jobs
GUEST POST - There are a gazillion work options offered by the magnanimous city of Dubai and these job opportunities are not just limited to the boring construction or oil and gas jobs or with organizations domiciled within the Dubai International Financial Center. There are several other career options to choose from, some of them being highly diverse from the run-of-the-mill jobs in Dubai.
The following are some highly interesting jobs based in Dubai for which you may not need to have heavy technical qualifications but should be passionate enough. Let us take a look at the jobs that we would love to do and also get paid for!
Personal Shopper
Love brands? Who doesn’t? This is like a dream job for the fashion-conscious shopaholic in you. Many high-end stores in Dubai appoint candidates like you as their personal shopping consultants. All you need to have is fashion sense and the ability to offer expert advice on style and wardrobe consulting for particular seasons or special occasions. As a personal shopper working for a huge department store in Dubai, your responsibilities will include personally selecting products for their VIP Customers from
all over the world.
Food Taster
Some people live to eat, while some eat to live. If you take up a job as a food taster, you will fall in the third category of people who not only get to do both of the above; they also get paid to eat! Eating is a universal need that makes us work to earn a living so we can put food on our tables. But think about it, what if you made the meals pay you instead of splurging your hard-earned money on the same gourmet dishes? A three- to seven-course meal will turn even more attractive when you know you are being paid to have the treat.
There are several jobs in Dubai that require expertise on culinary tastes and presentations. These jobs are listed on various job portals and seek food tasters for their genuine and unprejudiced opinions. The demand for food tasters comes from restaurants, cafés and hotels. Even though chefs are present for this job, most food companies think it is best to take the businesses seriously and have another person do the job for unbiased feedback.
Other than being a food taster, one may also be an ice-cream taster or tea taster. For this, you will not only need to have a good sense in taste, but also a fair understanding of texture, aroma and appearance. A degree in nutrition or food science will certainly improve your chances in this realm.
Mystery Shopper
Can’t seem to get enough of shopping, huh? Here’s another job option for the shopping lovers. Many companies in the UAE recruit mystery shoppers to go to stores posing as actual shoppers. As a mystery shopper, your role is to analyze the products and services offered by luxury brands that are oh-so-popular for their snob-value, sophistication and yes, quality.
To become eligible for this job, you need to – love shopping, love shopping and love shopping! But wait, that’s not all. You must also possess an eye for detail and should have excellent reporting skills, apart from having a strong visual sense of luxury. But before you think of applying for this job, make sure you are well-versed with all the big brands and know how the brand names are pronounced. After all, you don’t want to end up looking like a fake high-end buyer. Knowledge of the latest fashion trends will certainly help.
Storyteller
In an age when kids are more attracted to Temple Run and Candy Crush than outdoor games and where iPhones and iPads have become the primary toys for children, it may be hard to believe that there is still demand for storytellers. Yes, it is true that conventional storytellers are in demand in Dubai and get a decent pay to read out stories to little children. Some storytellers offer voluntary services for reasons other than monetary while the others earn from it. Dubai offers several storytelling opportunities in nurseries, schools, malls, bookstores like Jashanmal and Kinokuniya, and special events organized for kids. If you take up this job seriously, there are chances of getting paid handsomely.
Voice-Over Artist
This job is highly exciting and does not demand any college degree for you to fulfil any eligibility criteria. All you need is a great voice along with the ability to modulate your voice, good pronunciation and the perfect diction. Once you begin surfing the job boards, you will find there are numerous job openings for voice-over artists in diverse languages, most of them seeking artists for a one-off assignment or a part-time job. Professionals in this industry can do voice-overs for radio, TV and/or movies. They may even lend their voices to mascots, cartoon characters, documentaries or any other
project where they need to record in the recording studios. And if you can manage to do your job well, you stand a good chance of making it a full-time job by taking up a job as a presenter or radio jockey.

4 Things To Do Before Buying A Car
![]() |
Photo from lifed.com |
Buying any kind of car in U.A.E generally, and in Dubai specifically is considered a hassle for some due to its complicity, a joy for others for what they meet along the way, and a hunt for the majority, where you have your best buddy by your side and you're ready to take down manipulative salesmen who want to convince you to buy their "flawless cars".
Prepare your baskets because I am about to drop in some knowledge. Luckily, for you, you got me by your side to walk you through the steps of buying a new used car, and yet make you enjoy your "hunt".
DO YOUR RESEARCH
Never, ever walk into a dealership "just to see what they've got." Before heading to buy the car, you have to read up. It's like homework, and if you failed to prepare for it, then you're more likely preparing for failure. You have to have the mindset to what you're looking for, regarding the price, type and model in order to know better.
Maybe you would choose to go to the car dealers, or let them come to you by visiting http://www.carmudi.ae/ where you’ll find all types of vehicles you need and from trusted people and car dealers.
Maybe you would like choose a Toyota for its great mechanics, a Kia for its optimized fuel efficiency, or even a Chevy American muscle car for incredible engine power. This way you know where you're headed and your brain will automatically gray-out the unnecessary car options and make your built-in Search Engine Optimization pick what suits you best.
CAR INSPECTION
Here comes the good part, even if you know nothing about cars, don't pick the car, let the car pick you. Sounds strange? No, cause as much as you're part of it, it’s part of you. Just like falling in love from the first sight, you gaze upon the car of your dreams and begin inspecting it from every angle and flip the hood open to see the inner beauty, and once you feel confident enough, take the car to the experts car inspectors and let them play their role to show you the pros and cons of choosing a car.
TEST DRIVE
Once you're inside the car, phase out; don't listen to anyone or anything but yourself and the car. Ask yourself, do I see myself driving this in the future? Test the car's gear, break, and acceleration responses, take the test to the limits to see its true potential, do not overdo it though, and remember that it is a used car, so there might be some minor problems, but as long as they are not major, it is nothing to worry about.
GOING BACK HOME
After picking your target and being satisfied with the offered price, be ready to debate to save as much Riyals as possible before you present your cash, so you can feel that this car hunt was worth it in terms of search, price and experience.
If you followed this guide to the letter, you'll find it easier to pick a used car from now on, stay away from the random Salesmen talk who wants nothing but your money, and listen to the sound of reason and the sound your engine's chosen car, and to avoid all the hassle visit the Carmudi website as that will enable customers to easily find or sell their car, motorcycle or commercial vehicle online.

Where to watch meteor shower in Dubai?
‘Experience of a lifetime’ - this is how experts describe what to witness in tonight's meteor shower. Named as Camelopardalids (after the Giraffe Constellation), spectators will be up for a stellar treat indeed.
The event is be hosted by the Dubai Astronomy Group tonight at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa from 9pm to 5am tomorrow, Saturday. Scientists estimate that between 100 and 400 meteors will cruise through the sky per hour, and could reach about 1000 in its peak. This new meteor shower could definitely be an astronomical experience of a life-time. Meteor garden in Dubai.
The event will also feature relevant educational live presentations about the sky, the universe we are in.

Behind the Scene Photos: Star Wars Episode VII Filming in Abu Dhabi
TMZ posted some exclusive spoiler photos of the filming of Star Wars Episode 7 in the hot hot hot UAE. It is scorching 50 degrees hot in the city these days, how much more in the desert... But, the sand in the photos looks more like from the beach and not desert though. The desert is set to be used as planet Tatooine, home to Luke Skywalker.
But here's director J.J. Abrams had to say:
TMZ wrote, "Jedi sources tell us the new alien was manned by 5 men inside its belly ... and was used in two scenes taking place in what looks like a Tatooine marketplace."
According to the website, producers intend to use less CG in the new movies, instead, relying heavily on practical effects like the original trilogy which is evident in these photos.

Iftar Buffet at Liwan Restaurant, Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana and How You Can Win One
Our pleasure to be invited to a press and bloggers Iftar at the all-day dining Liwan restaurant in Al Ghurair Rayhaan by Rotana.
It's my first time in Liwan and I'm impressed with its immersive ambiance. Every corner tells a story. Arabic table mats, wooden camel figures, carts & pails of traditional dried fruits & nuts, exotic tea pots and colorfully glowing Arabic lanterns welcome guests to the lavish Iftar. Some staff are dressed in traditional Arabic outfits as well. The live Arabic musical entertainment completes the feel of Ramadan.
It always feels good to dine at Rotana. The staff is very friendly and hospitable. This funny guy below not just serve, but gives you trivia about the Arabic coffee he serves.
The buffet features a selection of Arabic, international and traditional Ramadan specialties. I'm not really a huge fan of Arabic cuisine but what I've got on my plate was really delightful enough. Food is good!
There's a cold mezze counter, a South Asian corner, Tandoori, fresh veggies, servings of maki rolls, and of course, a Shawarma Station among others.
The theme was more like of Pan-Arabian delicacies.
I was late to snap a full table of the desserts. But there are fruits, cuts of cakes, mousse and wide range of traditional Arabic sweets and dates which you can dip and top with different dressings.
Another good thing about Liwan is their Kids Corner. For families with toddlers like us, you can somehow relax while watching your kid play safe at the area. There's also food for the playfuls there - chicken nuggets, hash browns and stir-fried noodles. There's also a kiddie kit for every little one with coloring materials in it. You won't see many hotel restaurants this family-friendly.
The Iftar buffet costs AED 149 per person. They also serve Suhour starting from AED 100. Guests will get a chance to win daily with weekend stays and meal vouchers, or win the grand prize of 2 business class trips to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines.
For more info and reservation, you may call +971.4.2933000 or email fb.alghurair@rotana.com. Click here to learn more about Iftar at Al Ghurair Rayhaan Rotana.
A usual good thing about Iftar is I get to meet online personalities and fellow bloggers I follow. Lovely meeting these awesome ladies, Grace of Sandier Pastures, Carla of My Yellow Bells, Sheila of AB and Me, and Roselle of Kero's Celebration. Thanks for the invite and for this Insta-selfie Ferry.
Win with Boy Dubai!
I want to share it with you one of the best Iftar experience we've had. In cooperation with Liwan Restaurant, I am giving away one "Iftar vouchers for 2 people" worth AED149 to one lucky reader.
Simply share this article on Facebook or Twitter and you're in to the draw. Two winners will be drawn via Random.org and will be announced morning of 22nd July. Good luck!

The Largest Mall in the Planet, Mall of the World Dubai

Artist’s impression of the Mall of the World |
Aside from the mall, the ambitious 48 million square feet project will also include:
- 20,000 rooms across 100 hotels and serviced apartments
- Dubai Cultural District - a cultural celebration centre
- World's largest indoor theme park covered by a glass dome that is open during winter
- Wellness district - catering to medical tourists in 3 million square feet area
The Mall of the World is to be located along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Al Barsha area. Unlike the traditional western mall ideas, Mall of the World will boast a "retail street network" concept stretching over 7 kilometers.
The mall would also host the world’s largest indoor theme park.
A report from Gulfnews says that future tenants of the "Wellnes District" cluster will offer not just cosmetic and wellness treatments but top-of-the-line health care, including specialized surgical procedures.
Gulfnews report added that the Dubai Cultural District developer is eyeing for touchstones similar to what a visitor would see in London’s West End or New York’s Broadway.
It will have the ‘Celebration Walk’, akin to Barcelona’s Ramblas Street. There will be direct connectivity from the cultural cluster – which will offer a mix of conference, celebration and even wedding halls - to the rest of the mall.
Here's a video presentation of the project:

Spread love and joy this Ramadan by helping fill the Right Bite bag
Right Bite hopes to spread Ramadan cheer with the launch of a new initiative called “Help Us Fill the Bag”. The campaign’s mission is to demonstrate the true essence of Ramadan by encouraging its clients to do a good deed by generously sharing and giving much needed essentials to its partner charity organisation, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC).
The campaign, which runs throughout the whole month of Ramadan, will have Right Bite sending its subscribers an invitation, placed inside the Right Bite cooler bag, to participate in the initiative. Customers who would like to support the drive will fill the empty bag with essential items particularly needed by DFWAC and leave it outside their house for the Right Bite driver to collect. Clients who have more to give than what a single cooler bag can hold, can keep the items in another bag for Right Bite to collect. Right Bite, along with volunteers, will deliver all the donations to DFWAC at the end of the month, to bring happiness to those in need. Right Bite aims to fill up 200 cooler bags with donations of items needed.
To further promote Help Us Fill the Bag campaign, Right Bite will send out e-mailers and upload social media posts, wherein this YouTube video below will be shared to explain the full mechanics.
Pictures, videos and other visuals will also be posted across all Right Bite social media channels throughout the month to encourage more donations. The hashtag #FillTheBag will be used to generate further interest and engagement on social media.
“As a socially responsible business entity we fully recognise how important it is to provide support to various needs of the local community. We sincerely thank the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children for allowing us to partner with them and do these small acts of kindness, especially during a very significant occasion that is Ramadan. Our clients’ Right Bite bag will help them stay healthy, and at the same time allow them to reach out to others by generously sharing things that would be of great help to those in need,” said Nathalie Haddad, Founder and Managing Director, The Right Bite Nutrition and Catering Services L.L.C.
Shams AlMuhairy, PR and Funding Manager at DFWAC, said, “Right Bite’s Help Us Fill the Bag campaign is a true demonstration of charity and goodwill. What better time to give generously and touch individuals who need a little help than during Ramadan? We thank Right Bite for taking on this initiative, and we hope that it will inspire others to do the same. We believe that with their efforts, the women and children we look after will have a Ramadan that they will never forget.”

Lavish Iftar at Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek
A convergence of the hotel's restaurants welcomed us at Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek Wednesday night. Right upon stepping out of the lift to the first floor, an assortment of dates from different countries and traditional Ramadan juices in their carts invite the guests into a sumptuous digestive indulgence. We were ushered to the bloggers table at Shabestan restaurant.
The huge Iftar buffet are grouped into sections representing cuisines from the Middle East and some popular regions of the world. In addition to the Mediterranean Arabia selections, Emarati, Persian, Asian, Italian and International have their dedicated food divisions as well.
There are live cooking stations for veggies, pasta and oriental noodles.
There's also one for zaatar lovers. A chicken shawarma stand is in the house as well.
Asian Food was the "best-selling movie of the night", particularly the dimsum station. It took me more than 5 minutes to wait in queue for the Peking Duck rolls, but it's worth the wait. Mine was crispy on the inside and the dip was perfectly juicy.
My dimsum plate |
The chicken and seafood dimsums, har gau, siumai, and the steamed buns were very tasty. Whenever new ones are brought to the dimsum station, they'll be gone in few minutes.
The sushi station offers variety of maki rolls.
After starting with Asian, I continued with Persian.
The hot-off-the-grill lamb and chicken kebabs suggest a feast. There's also Mahi kebab which I tried for the first time and it's good. It has very lean fish meat and doesn't feel "fishy" at all, which is good for me ;-)
An upcoming restaurant, Aseelah, provides a preview of their authentic Emarati cuisine.
Cuts of chiffon cakes, cheese cakes and mousse |
Caramel cream, cakes, dates and traditional Arabic sweets |
More traditional Arabic sweets along with fudge and mousse cakes and dried fruits |
My picks for dessert. Actually second plate. |
Yes, Camel Milk is available |
All these lavish Iftar is reasonably priced at AED 149 per person inclusive of beverages, and is available from sunset til 11pm. As this is one of the most popular Iftar in the city, I suggest you come at the earliest to avoid long queue at the valet (and at the buffet). Reaching out to the community Since the virtue of giving is very much alive in Ramadan, and if you may want to help but don't know how, you can bring your donations in forms of gifts like clothing or food items to Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek. In partnership with Beit Al Khair Society, they will be distributing the donations to the respective sectors they are supporting. Those who will bring their valuable donations will receive 20% discount on the Iftar. For more info on this and for reservations, please call 04-2057333 / 7444 or visit www.diningdubaicreek.com. |
So my baby picked one of these capsicum from the fresh veggies display |
Next thing we know, she didn't want to let it go ;-) munching it til we reach home. |
This experience was so good that I want to share it with you. In cooperation with Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, I am giving away two "Iftar vouchers for 2 people" worth AED298 each to 2 lucky readers.
Simply share this article on Facebook or Twitter and you're in to the draw. Two winners will be drawn via Random.org and will be announced morning of 21st July. Good luck!

Mo's American Dining Experience at Citywalk Dubai
It was my first time to visit Citywalk. I've heard so many good things about this place, and finally I made it here. This vibrant dining and shopping haven at Al Wasl corner Al Safa Road in Jumeirah 1, Dubai features a posh strip of restaurants that invites every visitor to hangout for a sumptuous digestive indulgence.
Every dining stop has their own al fresco setup that promises amazing views and experiences during the colder season. A well-lit water fountain and the Burj Khalifa set in the background. But it was hot and hazy outside even for a stroll so we went straight to dinner.
With my wife and my 2-year old girl, we headed to Mo's - an American fine dining, all-day restaurant with a cozy ambiance and very warm staff. We were ushered to the best area for family.
The manager walked in our table with all smile. He allowed us to learn more about the restaurant. Mo's, a part of the Caramel Group, is a family-oriented casual dining serving contemporary American dishes with a twist. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
A server politely introduced herself and asked for our preferred refreshments above anything else. Root Beer Float for me, Lemon Iced Tea for the wife. I'm a huge fan of root beer float and glad to find one on the menu.
It's quite not easy and quick to choose from the menu. Not that there are hundreds of items in there. In fact, every item in it is well-described. It's just one of those "I-want-a-bit-of-everything-if-I-may" moment. With the help of our server, who knows their food by heart I must say, we were able to select a few from their specialties. We were warned though... that the serving size is 'American.'
We had Queso Fundido for appetizers - turkey chorizo and velveeta cheese in crispy nachos and soft tortilla. Definitely beyond you traditional starter bites.
I don't usually order salads when dining out, but the wife insisted. Okay. We asked our server what would be best for us and for the little one as well. BBQ Chicken Salad turned out as one of the best salad I've ever had in a restaurant. From its presentation to the taste, the experience on this mix of ranch-flavored chicken barbecue chunks, cut crispy onion rings, avocado slices, grilled corn bits, black beans, pico de gallo, and shreds of cheese, is exceptional.
For the mains, we had Chicken Alfredo, Baconator Beef Burger, which the server asked how we'd like it (well-done) and their top-seller and signature entree... wait for it... the TNT Shrimp Tacos!
Man, TNT Shrimp Tacos is a champ! These mouthwatering, mildly-spiced battered shrimps come wrapped in 6 soft tacos with shreds of lettuce in it. Guacamole, Pico De Gallo Slaw and Sour Cream Chipotle Mayo are served with it - and all of them taste really good with the piquant-flavored shrimp and altogether as well. Explosive it is!
Now the Baconator Beef Burger. By this time, we're almost full, but no, that doesn't mean we're passing on this one. A bite was followed by another one, and another, and another. ;-) The thick juicy well-done burger patty comes with crispy veal bacon with onions, lettuce and tomatoes in their freshly-baked soft buns. It is served with bbq sauce.
And, yes indeed, we were warned of the huge serving size.
Chicken Alfredo is 'chicken alfredo.' This fresh fettuccini pasta comes with lots of chicken chunks and rich and creamy parmesan sauce.
Mo's has a Just For Kid's menu which makes it a perfectly fine dining destination for families. Mac n Cheese is what we chose for our baby. Even the kids meals comes in huge serving. Baby Aya said 'yum yum' and yes indeed it was so tasty that kiddos will surely love it.

FIBAU17 Pilipinas vs Angola: Whispers from the bleachers
When Team Angola entered the court, the crowd was calm and probably stunned by the height of the opponents. But it was goosebumps when Batang Gilas entered the court in tune of Bamboo's Noypi. It was raucous when "Filipino! "Filipino!" from Black Eyed Peas' Bebot filled the stadium.
Even by just watching the warm-ups, the crowd knew it won't be easy for Gilas. No expectations are too big in this game, in this tournament. Angolans won indeed 82-72, but in a tightly-contested fashion as Batang Gilas were able to trim down the lead to 5 points inside the last 2 minutes. .
It's the first time that a Philippine Under-17 team is participating in the FIBAU17 World Championships.
Indeed, we've just witnessed the future of Philippine basketball. Although we came short of winning against the taller but lanky Angolans, this Batang Gilas Pilipinas team has shown many upsides despite the obvious huge disparity in height. We've seen the strengths and weaknesses. If taken constructively, this young team of homegrown talents could go farther in the future.
They're quick. They showed good movements and positioning. They can free themselves from defenders and get open shots a lot of times. They even win contested rebounds during the first quarter.
They can make mid-range jumpers, but they need to make those threes. Obviously, the team's main arsenal is outside shooting. Even if only half of their 35 3-point attempts get converted, we could have won the game. But they only made 5. No thanks to the long reach of the stretched arms of the defenders.
The youthful energy is there. It was a run-run-run offense from the tip-off 'til the last few minutes. They did pressure defense at many crucial parts of their run.
Pilipinas played quite good ball movement, but the Angolans played basics and converted their shots. Batang Gilas guards are quick, and they are slashing inside the paint manned by the giants. Pilipinas showed pretty good defense, but the lack of height really took its toll. At some point, the Angolans played like a daddy playing with his child as the smaller Batang Gilas tries to take away the ball from daddy's outstretched hands.
In contrast to how smooth they shoot treys, the Angolans shot poorly from the free throw line, while the Philippine team doesn't have much chance to take free throws because Angolans doesn't get whistled for fouls that much.
A few signs of unfamiliarity resulted in costly turnovers. At one point, they passed the ball to coach Jamike to the 'delight' of the crowd.
The Crowd
Dubai is Philippine's 2nd home court at any given time. Whenever a Philippine team visits, the stadium will always be full.
Even the house music is Pinoy - Bebot, Noypi, Laklak and Annie Batumbakal.
And indeed the crowd played its role as the 6th man. It surely was a big boost for the Batang Gilas players to play their hearts out.
Majority in the crowd surely have not seen this Batang Gilas team before, but the support brought by the Filipino expats says something beyond popularity. It's about national pride. Win or lose, I'm sure we'll always be happy to see a gallant fight from our team. After all, basketball runs in our blood.
Change Referee!
There were some questionable calls in the game. From 3rd quarter onwards the fourth, chants of "Change Referee! Change Referee!" comically filled the air every time this referee blows his whistle. That was fun!
Improvement of crowd support
The Philippine embassy and consul general office must play a bigger role in this kind of events. How about a pep squad to lead the cheers? The Philippine schools in the country will surely love the idea. But if "that's too much," how about a simple gesture of giving away flaglets to the crowd, or clappers, banners, etc?
Okay, Batang Gilas shirts are sold at the gates for AED35, but not everyone can afford to buy.
I hope one day we'll have our own "Ole, ole, ole." We have to come in unison.
Standing ovation
At the dying seconds of the game, everyone's on their feet applauding the team. That's really a great scene. A proof that the crowd appreciates the gallant stand, and despite the disadvantage, this smaller
Batang Pilipinas team gave us a good game.
Side story: Chaos at the bleachers before the game
Less than an hour before the game begins, half of the stadium was already filled with Filipino crowd. We came early so we could get good front seats. Many of the early birds came from Abu Dhabi and other Emirates so they could be seated well. Some ushers and FIBA organizers asked the Pinoy crowd to move to the other side of the stadium because that was the "allotted" area for Filipinos.
So hundreds of us dismayed, but had to move, ran and race to the other side to get better seats. Halfway through crossing to the other side, another official asked us to go back to where we're originally seated, because he is "the right person we should only listen to."
So we went back, dropped our flag while running, pissed because we lost our precious front row seats. And all the purpose of coming so early was negated.
Just few minutes after that, another FIBA staff, asked us again to transfer to the other side. What the! I asked why can't you just let us sit where we want to sit. And besides, there's NO MORE spaces in the other side - they want us to sit on the upper box. It is free-seating. No single label or whatsoever indicating seating allocations. And... at least consider that there are too many children and babies in the crowd for them to move back and forth. So I talked to these guys and said that eventually the whole stadium will be filled with Filipinos anyway, so what's the point?
We stayed in that area. Apparently, she was told that the order to ask the crowd to move to the other side was because the "international cameras" are focused there - and "higher authorities" wanted to show a packed stadium in the broadcast. Wow!
As expected, Al Ahli stadium eventually was full.

Boodle Fight Dining in Dubai
I've tried this Boodle Fight dining in Dubai twice already - both in Asian Flavors in Qusais (Baghdad corner Damascus streets).
Traditional 'Boodle Fight' is a military style of eating where long tables are prepared and food are on top of the banana leaves. Viands and rice ready to eat using your bare hands, jugs of water are prepared on the side to wash hands before the "eating combat". With the signal to start the boodle fight, everyone aims for his/her position and 'tabla-tabla na' fight.
Here's a photo of our set, before and after:

There's also the Birthday Boodle set which includes a birthday cake along with Beef with Onions, Fried Chicken, Pancit Canton, Lumpia Shanghai and Chopsuey among others.

Batman Ride in Dubai Six Flags Theme Park?
We all hope so. Set to launch in 2017, Six Flags has not publicly disclosed yet which rides will be set up in Dubai. In the US, Batman Ride will be unveiled in San Antonio, Texas in July next year.
This ride which is dubbed as world’s first “four-dimensional free fly’ roller coaster”, will flip riders upside down in rotating seats at least 6 times as the ride negotiates a series of twists and drops, up to a speed of 54 miles per hour (90-100 kph) and a drop from 105 feet from air.
See this video preview. Fun yeah?

Eid special show at Dubai Dolphinarium
In the Philippines, dolphin sighting is a common occurrence to ferry travelers like me. I've seen dolphins play along with people on board ferries. It is also a common tourist attraction to many island hoppers to many destinations back home.
That's why I'm not really that eager to see the show before.
Add to that, we always get amused of these dolphin shows on Youtube. But now I can say nothing beats the feeling of seeing them live. It's a peculiar entertainment. The talent is bedazzling - both the trainers and the dolphins, and seals.
Last night's show was extra special with the addition of ‘Aladdin’ acrobat show. It is a display of illusion, acrobatics, musicale & adventure - a prelude to the main seals and dolphins show.
The 3 seals are amazing. They perfectly did the hula hoops while their flippers are in sync. One of them even sing in the mic. That was the "cutest horrible" sound I've heard - a sweet monster.
The 6 dolphins are unbelievable. Even the best adjectives won't be enough to describe how adorable and fascinating they all are. They flip, jump, jump higher, glide, juggle, toss different ball sizes, and sing.
It's a wonder how these bottlenose dolphins are named and how they know their names - Senya, Ksyusha, Jerry, Tetka, Fekla and Kai.

They also paint an abstract that right after went to auction. The bidder won it for AED400.
Best is, they're so engaged not just with their trainers but with the audience as well. Superb!
Also part of their Eid celebrations are cool giveaways. If your seat number is called out you could win prizes like gold from Joyalukkas, balloon rides vouchers with Balloon Adventures, desert motor cycle rides with Just Gas It, desert safaris & yacht trips with Rayna Tours & family fun days at Al Tamimi Stables.
Baby Aya enjoyed herself until the seals show. After a short break to give away prizes, she started crying and never got her mood back until the last few minutes of the dolphin show. I feel so sorry :(
Here are some of the snaps from last night's show:

Emirates to fly first A380 commercial flight to Manila today
Lucky passengers will get to experience the first commercial flight of an A380 aircraft to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila as Emirates takes its flagship aircraft to a one-off trip today. This is to mark the airline's move to NAIA Terminal 3.
This special flight will be flown by the Captain Franklyn Desiderio, the first and only Filipino in the world to fly A380.
More info on this press release:
DUBAI, U.A.E., 1st October 2014: Emirates is taking its flagship aircraft, Airbus A380 to Manila on 7th October to celebrate the airline’s move to the International Terminal (T3) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport and its commitment to the Philippines.
Emirates began flights between Dubai and Manila in 1990 and due to the consistently strong passenger and cargo demand continued to increase its flight frequency to its current triple daily, non-stop passenger services.
Emirates’ one-off A380 service, which will be flown by Captain Franklyn Mallari Desiderio from the Philippines, will depart Dubai International Airport on 7th October as EK334 at 09:20hrs and arrive in Manila at 22:10hrs. The return flight will depart as EK335 at 01:15hrs on 8th October, arriving back in Dubai at 05:40hrs.
Barry Brown, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East, said, “We are thankful to the Government of Philippines for allowing us to operate three daily flights in to Manila. The Philippines is one of our major markets and we have seen the demand for our services continuing to grow. Since we connected the two cities 24 years ago, Emirates served over 6.6 million passengers and carried over 150,000 tonnes of cargo. Each of our flights over those years have contributed the growth and development of Philippines’ trade and tourism as well as providing ease of travel for overseas Filipino professionals.
“In 2013 Emirates welcomed over 820,000 passengers on its three daily Dubai-Manila services with a very high average seat factor demonstrating the consistent strength of passenger demand, choice and award-winning service which Emirates brings to Philippines,” Mr Brown continued.
“Bringing our flagship A380 to Manila is a fantastic way to celebrate our move to the new international terminal and also our commitment to the Philippines,” concluded Mr Brown.
Emirates currently operates 53 A380s which fly to 31 destinations across the airline’s ever increasing global network, including London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and New York.
Emirates’ A380 is renowned for the range of innovations it offers to make the journey more comfortable and enjoyable for passengers travelling in all classes.
First Class passengers can relax in one of 14 flat-bed, massage-equipped Private Suites; the cabin also has two exquisitely designed onboard Shower Spas, ensuring a revitalised and refreshed arrival.
For First and Business Class passengers the on-board lounge is the social highlight, featuring a fully-stocked bar and a selection of hot and cold canapés.
